The Town Hall Pharmacy (Raeapteek) in Tallinn is the oldest known pharmacy in Europe that
has continuously operated in the original building. The pharmacy was first mentioned in the records of the town council of Tallinn in 1422.
The dignified Raeapteek is located by the northern side of the Town Hall Square of Tallinn.
For as many as ten generations, Raeapteek belonged to the Burchart family which owned the pharmacy in 1582–1911. The Raeapteek pharmacy of Tallinn has left a significant mark in our history and culture. Raeapteek is also the birth place of the pharmaceutical industry in Estonia.
Today, the pharmacy operates hand-in-hand with a museum, the activities of which are supported by the city of Tallinn. The museum organises guided tours for the locals and foreign visitors alike.
Workshops on medicinal plants and marzipan are also organised for children as well as adults.
Raeapteek as the oldest continuously running company in Tallinn symbolises knowledge, traditions, and continuity.
