In January 2020, Estonia will mark the centenary of one of the country’s oldest professional theatres, Ugala. The Ugala’s birth date can be considered to be 5 January 1920, when legally unincorporated theatre and art society by the same name presented a Märt Mõrd-directed performance of Pansion Schöller, a farce written by Wilhelm Jacoby and Carl Laufs, at the Koidu community centre. The Ugala Theatre logo depicted on the stamp is from 1931 and is the oldest theatre logo in Estonia still used in its original design. The logo was designed by the theatre’s then set designer Juhan Kangilaski.
