The ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2010 will take place in Tallinn from January 19 to 24. During a whole week Tallinn`s Saku Suurhall will be the scene for the best figure skaters of Europe with a total of nine competitions held in single and pair skating and in ice dance. The organiser of the championships is the Estonian Skating Union, and they will take place under the auspices of the International Skating Union. The Estonian Skating Union was founded in 1910 and it coordinates the activity of figures skating, speed skating and short track in Estonia. Figure skating is one of the world`s most popular spectator sports. For the first time the Estonian public will have the opportunity of cheering to competitors at title competitions. Estonia will be represented by a team of six at the championships. The European Championships in Figure Skating will be the biggest title competitions to be held in Estonia since the restoration of independence. Of earlier major competitions world championships in weightlifting were staged in Tallinn in 1922, European championships in Greco-Roman wrestling in 1938 and the Yachting Regatta of the Moscow Olympic Games in 1980.
