Description

In trying times, Eduard Profittlich (1890–1942) embodies human dignity, faith, and unwavering dedication. After learning the language and applying for Estonian citizenship after arriving in Estonia from Germany in 1930, he was named Archbishop of the Estonian Catholic Church by Pope Pius XII just six years later. He had the choice to leave, but he chose to stay on the sidelines of his people and the Church during the Soviet repression, a choice that ultimately cost him his life. His life and martyrdom serve as a testament to moral and religious integrity that endures across time and political shifts. With significant historical, spiritual, and national significance, Eduard Profittlich's beatification is the first of its kind in Estonia and the Nordic nations since the 16th century. He serves as an inspiration to us in terms of bravery, devotion, and love for Estonia.
