Description

The Estonian Shooting Union was established on 23 March 1931 with Col. Friedrich Pinka elected as chairman. Later that year the Estonian Shooting Union was admitted to the International Sport Shooting Federation, then known as UIT. The union was dissolved soon after the Soviet occupation of Estonia in September 1940, and could only be restored in 1990. Chairman of the Estonian Shooting Union since 2002 is Vice Adm. Tarmo Kõuts, commander of the Estonian defence forces. At different times Estonian marksmen have won 28 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze medals at European championships, as well as one gold and one silver medal by juniors. European championships have yielded four gold medals, 11 silver medals and three bronze medals, as well as four gold medals, three silver medals and the bronze medals under the juniors program.
